The Botlek bridge is the biggest and above all, the heaviest lifting bridge of its kind. An important part of the bridge is the bridge-lifting mechanism. This lifting mechanism ensures that the bridge deck, weighing 5,000 tons, can quickly be raised and lowered 31 metres, giving the bridge the highest lifting frequency and the highest lifting speed in the world. With the supply of 20 braking resistors, we provide for the technical solution that makes the bridge operable.
We designed and produced the resistors for the movement and drive of the lifting bridge. The total capacity is 3000 kW in a curve of 90/90 seconds per 420 seconds. The resistor casings are realised with natural ventilation, so that no moving parts are added. This creates a reliable resistance, built for a heavy job.
